AFC President praises Nagoya Oceans for capturing AFC Futsal Club Championship Thailand 2019 title

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated Nagoya Oceans after the Japanese club clinched a record-extending fourth AFC Futsal Club Championship title when they defeated Islamic Republic of Iran's Mes Sungun Varzeqan 2-0 in an exciting final at the Bangkok Arena on Saturday.

Shaikh Salman said: "Each year, the AFC Futsal Club Championship increases in strength and the 2019 edition lived up to its promise with some entertaining displays by both players and clubs.

"On behalf of the Asian football family, I would like to congratulate Nagoya Oceans for their commendable display to claim the Continent's most coveted futsal club prize.

"In winning this tournament for the fourth time, Nagoya Oceans have truly earned their place as a major force in Asian club futsal history.

"We must also praise both the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran and the Japan Football Association and the dedicated clubs working tirelessly behind the scenes to build vibrant and robust futsal programmes for aspiring players across the respective countries to pursue their passion for the sport."

Shaikh Salman also praised the Local Organising Committee and said: "Futsal has strategic value to the AFC by spreading the game and popularity of the sport across Asia, and I must thank the Football Association of Thailand for demonstrating their ability to organise a memorable tournament.

"No other city or venue in Asia has hosted as many futsal club competitions and the appreciation of the whole Asian football family goes to FA Thailand for their organisational skills and readiness to provide a top-class stage for Asia's finest talents."

After snatching the all-important second goal in the final, Nagoya's Tomoki Yoshikawa was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, with Kazuya Shimizu leading the scoring charts with 10 goals for Thai Son Nam FC, including a hat-trick against AGMK FC to ensure the Vietnamese club a third place finish in Saturday's earlier match.
