A group of 25 traditional Chinese dancers including ten children took centre stage at the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 fan zone, bringing a taste of their country and culture to supporters enjoying the carnival atmosphere on the Corniche beach in Abu Dhabi.
With vivid whirling ribbons, elaborate movements and beautifully coloured costumes, the graceful performers offered a fascinating glimpse into an ancient culture through dance, before handing over to ten Chinese children living in the UAE, who showcased well-practiced Kung Fu martial arts moves much to the delight of football fans.
The performances were part of a month-long cultural programme, bringing music, dance and culture to the AFC Asian Cup Fan Zone, which is also showing all the matches of the tournament live to supporters of all countries on a giant screen.
Speaking after the performance, Wei Shanshan said: "We are very excited to be here as it feels like we're representing our country through dance and culture, just like the footballers are doing on the pitch."
"This makes me and my fellow performers very happy. It's amazing to have a venue like this to showcase our culture, spirit and unity whilst the AFC Asian Cup is running," added Wei, who will cheering on China PR in their quarter-final tie against Islamic Republic of Iran in Abu Dhabi later today.
