Female footballers achieve their goal thanks to AFC

More young females are taking up football with opportunities thriving throughout the UAE. This was the major takeaway as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) delivered another coaching session for young girls in Abu Dhabi, showing first-hand the benefits of taking up the sport and inspiring the next generation of football stars.

The 'It's My Game' events which took place in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain and Sharjah ahead of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, engaged hundreds of girls of all ages in football focused discussions and activities, and showcased the number of diverse roles available in the world's most popular sport.

A qualified coach delivered the latest workshop to ABC Private School, with Head of the PE department, Nairouz Alabed commenting: "More girls are interested in playing sports now which is great as they continue to learn new skills. It's My Game shows them how to improve within football and to apply those lessons to improve their life off the pitch."

Commenting on the success of 'Its My Game' in the UAE since its October launch, Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Local Organising Committee added: "In such a short timeframe we have seen huge strides in awareness, engagement and most importantly, participation in women's football.

"Throughout each event, there has been continual growth in numbers and we hope that Its My Game has provided that inspiration and platform for females of all ages to get involved in football."

'It's My Game' is a longstanding AFC initiative which delivers coaching sessions across Asia to develop women's football and has resulted in sharp growth in countries such as China, India and now the UAE.

Whilst many females of all ages have already taken part in 'Its My Game' events, there is still time to join the discussion online, by using the hashtag #ItsMyGame.
