Dazzling new AFC Asian Cup trophy lands in Japan
The stunning new AFC Asian Cup trophy landed in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday for the final leg of its tour and will be showcased at the TV Asahi Building Tokyo, Lobby Atrium from December 15-16, before making its way via Emirates Airlines to host city Dubai in the UAE on December 19, 2018.
The new silverware, which was unveiled during the glittering AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019™ Final Draw at the Burj Khalifa in May this year, began its epic journey in China PR, finding its way to Korea Republic's capital, Seoul, before landing in Doha, Qatar last week.
In keeping with the tournament's ever-growing prestige and stature, the AFC decided to commission a new trophy for the first time since the inaugural edition in 1956. Produced by a world-renowned silversmith in London, the new trophy is revolutionary in design and communicates the powerful spirit of football's second oldest continental competition.
AFC General Secretary Dato' Windsor John said: "We would like to thank all our commercial partners for taking great pride in showcasing the latest physical legacy of the AFC Asian Cup and more importantly, for bringing the competition closer to football fans across the Continent.
"The AFC's Vision and Mission has underlined our ambitions to raise the standards of our competition for our players, teams and passionate fans and the continuous support from our commercial partners is testament to the remarkable progress of the AFC Asian Cup."
